Dodger Greats From The Past
Past Dodger stars Koufax, Drysdale, and Snyder peer between the tall palm trees that dominate the landscape in and around Dodger Stadium. Similar displays of current players appear near the front of the ballpark. Images by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
Infinity and Beyond
A panoramic view from the upper deck at Dodger Stadium. The hills beyond the outfield remind visitors that the stadium itself was carved out of Chavez Ravine, the area near downtown Los Angeles that some still refer to as the Dodgers' home. The ballpark is the third oldest park in America, behind Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago. Wrigley is celebrating it's one hundredth year currently, in 2014. Dodger Stuff
Found this small dimly lit kiosk underneath the left field bleachers. Lot's of gear for a small space - Puig, Kemp, Kershaw, and Adrian Gonzalez jerseys all for purchase. The walk up song for Adrian Gonzalez was El Mariachi Loco, which found it's way to my iTunes list. Image by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
Lasorda's Place, La Trattoria
La Trattoria is an Italian restaurant owned by the Dodger's great manager, Tommy Lasorda. The outdoor bistro is located on the concourse behind right center field. This bobble head like figure of Lasorda sits in front of his restaurant, which also has a wall of photos which depicts past moments from the manager's career. Image by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
This Might Not Be Larry David
It's no secret that many famous and not so famous Hollywood celebrities are often seen hanging out at Dodger Stadium. This Larry David look alike stood dazed and confused near the top of the field boxes, apparently looking for his seat and his partner. The great comic, and the real Larry David stars in the HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm. Image by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
Live. Breathe. Blue
The 2014 Marketing Slogan like it or not. Who comes up with this stuff? The hills of Chavez Ravine surround Dodger Stadium. Image by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
"Palm Trees Grow and the Rents are Low"
From Neil Diamond, "I Am , , , I Said", 1971. Inside and around Dodger Stadium are an abundance of palm trees. This image is from behind the outfield bleachers. April, 2014, by Gary Paul Smith.
Vin Scully
Scully currently calls most Dodger home games (and selected road games) on SportsNet LA television and KLAC radio. He is known for his dulcet voice, lyrically descriptive style, and signature introduction to Dodger games: "It's time for Dodger baseball! Hi, everybody, and a very pleasant good (day/evening) to you, wherever you may be." Image from outside Dodger Stadium, by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
Downtown Los Angeles From Dodger Stadium
This image of downtown Los Angeles is from behind home plate. From inside the ballpark, a view of the hills surrounding Dodger Stadium forms the background from anywhere in the stadium. Downtown LA is only minutes away. We took Figueroa, to Sunset, to Elysian, and were there in under ten minutes. Image by Gary Paul Smith, from the upper deck, April, 2014.
Wolfman Blue
The Dodger's very own disc jockey spins the vinyl for pre-game entertainment under the right center field concourse. Image by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
Dodger Stadium 2014
The infamous "Dodger Dogs" were a bust, but the Bud Light was cold. Image by Gary Paul Smith, April, 2014.
